KKFI Brings a Collaborative Arts Effort to the Folly Stage
KKFI Presents: Collaborations Live! at the Folly Theater!
June 30th, we will host an exciting night of innovative, original music, film, and dance. KKFI 90.1 is bringing seven sets of arts organizations that will perform a series of original & collaborative creations live! This will be a great evening of modern and classic performances fusing music, dancing, and digital scenes to bring the arts even more to life! To top off the entire evening, this is a fundraiser for KKFI 90.1 to allow them to continue to deliver great music and be the voice of the community. The night will start off at 6 PM with a VIP reception where you will get to meet the artists in the Folly Shareholders Room with complementary appetizers and cocktails (All VIP tickets come with preferred seating in the box seats and the first 3 rows). Then at 7:15 PM, we'll hold a panel of artists and digital media experts on collaborations between artists and digital media in the modern age. This is a portion that we're personally looking forward to and will give you an inside look at the on goings and advancements of art and digital media collaborations. Then the real shows begin!
Starting at 8 PM, world famous Quixotic hits the stage accompanied by the music of Calvin Arsenia. The two combined will show an artistic dance style accompanied with the bizarre and experimental music musings of Arsenia. They are followed by Kelley Hunt & Jeff Black. Kelley brings us a soul and R&B feel with a taste of her KC born flavor. Jeff Black brings us music from numerous independent films and his experience of working with musicians like Dierks Bently and Blackhawk. Enrique Chi (of Making Movies) will perform along side the students of Art as Mentorship. Enrique Chi is the guitar/vocalist of the KC local band, Making Movies. Known most for their unique Afro-Latino rhythms and bi-lingual hits. Then to the stage we'll have Amado Espinoza & HotClub of KC! This will be an interesting collaboration, without a doubt. Amado, known for his music blending Bolivian roots and beautiful instrumentals, will blend in a fun upbeat way with HotClub, most known for their Gypsy Jazz. Keeping the jazzy feeling going, we'll see Barclay Martin Ensemble & Julia Haile, two Kansas City originals, come on stage and give us a jazz lounge experience with their smooth sounds. Then it's time to light the night up a little with A La Mode & Burlesque Downtown Underground hitting the stage. With Burlesque Downtown putting on a show of their own, the night will spice up with the roaring '20's style jazz from A La Mode. We'll then air a short documentary on the Topeka Freedom Singers. (You'll have to wait till the show to find out more!) The evening begins to round out with a performance by Rita Chiarelli & State City Films, then a performance by Enseble Ibérica & Elk's Pride Pictures. We're getting a lot of buzz and chatter around the event, and we're just as excited. Folly Theater Board Member and Vice President of Kissick Construction (Sponsor of the KKFI Collaboration show) Pete Browne declares,
Kissick Construction strongly believes that supporting the community is as hands-on and important as our construction projects. We applaud KKFI with its commitment to local music and are proud to support its “Collaborations” project, as it collaborates with the Folly Theater to bring these local talents to the big stage.Bill Sundahl, the Events, Volunteer, & Underwriter Coordinator for KKFI shared,
