Spring Fundraising is Underway – Give Today

Jazz is an important part of the Folly Theater’s personality. As are Groucho Marx, Humphrey Bogart, YoYo Ma, Joyce DiDonato, and Dave Brubeck. Jazz is but one of the many personalities the Folly has developed during its 113 year history. Perhaps you experienced a few yourself. Burlesque, vaudeville, family theater, Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show at one end of the spectrum and Miss Perpetual Motion at the other. Happily, the Folly still fills multiple (but different) roles on the performing arts scene. We present our own series, (Jazz, Kids and Cyprus Avenue Live with Bill Shapiro,) we host other presenters’ events, (the Harriman-Jewell Series, Friends of Chamber Music, Heartland Men’s Chorus, Ailey II,) and we hold numbers of additional events including corporate Town Hall Meetings, ballet recitals, and burlesque reviews.

Our goal is to preserve the Folly’s intangible assets and to protect its tangible ones - despite the passage of 113 years. This is a spectacular and intimate environment for music of all kinds; it is a vital part of Kansas City’s architectural and musical past; the new marquee sign beckons downtown visitors and residents alike to the corner of 12th and Central, and most important, The Folly delivers on your expectations of a memorable and personal performance experience – one we hope you will enjoy and share with others.

All buildings need critical attention from time to time. This 113 year-old building needs attention all the time. Tuckpointing, lighting, sound equipment, dressing rooms, floors, seats, plumbing, the list goes on. When such a valuable part of Kansas City’s history is involved, I hope you will consider lending your support to preserve this very tangible asset.
